Hey Mustang community! I'm reaching out because I need some advice on getting my baby properly detailed. I own a 2022 Mustang GT Premium in Grabber Blue, and this car is my absolute passion. The 5.0 V8, the handling, the aggressive styling… everything about it just brings a smile to my face every time I drive it.
I've had the car for about a year now, and while I've been pretty careful with it, the paint is starting to show some issues. Being a performance car that I actually drive spiritedly (yeah, I do some track days occasionally), it picks up a lot of brake dust, bug splatter on the front end, and rubber marks on the rear quarter panels from the wide tires.
The Grabber Blue paint is gorgeous but it's also showing every little imperfection. There are swirl marks from washing, some light scratches, and the front bumper has taken quite a few rock chips despite my best efforts. The gloss black accents are also starting to look a bit faded from sun exposure.
Inside is mostly fine since I don't eat or drink in the car, but the Recaro seats could use some cleaning, and there's dust accumulation around the performance gauges and all the controls.
I've tried a couple of regular car wash places, but they just don't get it. They treat it like any other coupe and don't understand the specific needs of a performance car. The last place actually scratched my spoiler with their equipment, which really frustrated me.
That's when I started specifically looking forMustang sports car detailing specialists who actually understand American performance vehicles and know how to handle them properly. I wanted someone with experience working on Mustangs specifically.
I found a shop through a local car meet where several Mustang owners recommended the same place. When I contacted them, the owner himself had a modified Mustang GT350, so I immediately felt more confident.
They understood exactly what I was talking about regarding the brake dust issue from the performance brakes. They recommended a wheel coating that would make cleaning much easier going forward. For the paint, they suggested a full correction to remove the swirls and scratches, followed by paint protection film on the front bumper, hood, and mirrors to prevent future rock chips.
The detailing process was thorough. They did a multi stage paint correction that brought back the depth and pop of the Grabber Blue. The color now looks incredibly vibrant and has this amazing wet look. They applied PPF on the high impact areas and ceramic coating on the rest of the vehicle.
The gloss black trim got restored and sealed, the exhaust tips were polished (they really shine now), and all the performance badging and emblems were carefully detailed. They even cleaned the engine bay, which on a Mustang GT is something you want to show off.
Inside, they detailed the Recaro seats carefully, cleaned all the gauges and screens without streaking, and even detailed the aluminum pedals and door sills that get a lot of wear.
What I really appreciated was their enthusiasm for the car. They took pride in their work because they're enthusiasts themselves, not just detailers doing a job. They even took some photos of the finished car for their portfolio.
The investment was significant but completely worth it. My Mustang now looks better than the day I bought it, and it's properly protected for continued performance driving.
For any other Mustang owners out there, where do you get your cars detailed? And what products do you use for maintenance between professional sessions? I'm especially curious about brake dust solutions since that's a constant battle with performance brakes.
